ROBERT ALLAN GRONEVELT

WOOD CRAFTSMAN

Born of a long line of Michigan craftsmen, Bob has worked in metal design and fabrication for over 30 years, only escaping into working with wood in limited free time and stolen moments. Trained in machining and tool and die design, he has worked in manufacturing between engineer’s rendering and parts production, analyzing and redesigning to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the process. For Bob, working in metal has been his vocation, but working with wood has been his dream.

Now he has the opportunity to work and play with all the types of wood and finishes he has always dreamed of, using his skill to draw the real purpose and life from the wood he encounters. Also a sailor, Bob has a sailor’s appreciation of the beauty and strength of wood in the design of objects that are functional and artistic simultaneously. At any one time, Bob will be working on building a table in his workshop, laying up a dinghy on a strong back and pondering his next project. In his woodshop on the Flat River, Bob has found that working in wood brings together his skills, strengths and love into his life’s work. 

What We Do 

Custom furniture making is an artform - functional art -and an ideal response to an individual's interest in creating an environment that is basically one's own.  Your home or office are the places where you spend the majority of your waking hours. These environments should be furnished as you want them, and participating in the design of your furniture, choosing the woods and the finishes are empowering and creative experiences not often found in this prefabricated world.
